A present which always looks fancier than it is is an engraved silver compact, like so:
This one is from ThingsRemembered (and is only $15) but there are lots of sites on the internet that offer custom-made engraving.
The crucial part of the gift is the option of engraving; I like quotes, myself. A fantastic one for a compact is from Ruskin: “Remember that the most gorgeous things in the world are the most useless; peacocks as well as lilies, for instance.” (Kind of a memento mori, however for prettiness.) Or try Horace: nihil est ab omni Parte beatum.
